One afternoon we wanted to get out and explore so we headed downtown Galveston to the “The Strand”. The Stand is just a street close to the shipping harbor full of boutiques, souvenir shops, sweet shops, and pubs.
I was kind of frustrated because we were doing a lot of walking, therefore, we had Hayden in the stroller. However, none of the stores were “stoller/wheelchair” accessible. So, every time we went into a store, we had to take Hayden out of the stroller, carry the stroller up the stairs, and chase him around telling him not to touch things. Well, I finally came to my senses and realized that they are that way for a reason! Hello…HURRICANES!
Jeff took some pictures of a plaque that was in one of the stores showing how high the water got during Hurricane Ike. Keep in mind, we were two blocks from the water.
We made a pit stop in the chocolate factory to cool off and get some chocolate of course!
Hayden got him a pretzel, Robin got a marshmallow stick, Jeff got toffee, and I got a rocky road something or another. Can you say delicious?
Then, we took a little walk down to the harbor where we saw two of Hayden’s favorite things. Tractors and trains. We actually saw these coming in on the train the day we arrived in Galveston. Then, saw them parked here a few days later. Hayden was beside himself excited and really wanted to take a closer look.
We saw this oil rig museum that we wanted to check out another day since it was already closed for the day.
It was so stinkin’ hot, we decided we needed to cool off again at Joes Crab Shack. We all got something to drink and Robin got her a cute shirt. Then, we headed out to explore some more. Only, we just found somewhere to eat since none of us were really hungry at Joe’s. We ended up eating at “The Spot”.
A couple of days later, we went back to the oil rig museum. We all really enjoyed it. It was just cool to see how things worked.
And their models of different rigs and their set ups. Wow. I can’t imagine building things like this!
Jeff liked sitting in the “I’m in charge” chair!
