Got one, lost four!

It's official, this precious toothless grin will soon be gone.

Hayden now has his first tooth poking through (top-middle-right tooth). I felt it this afternoon when we were at the dentist office waiting on Jeff to have his four wisdom teeth pulled.

Jeff did great. He was under conscious IV sedation while he had them pulled. We were there less than an hour. Jeff doesn't remember too much including our ride home. It took him a while to get the bleeding to stop once we got home, but he has taken his pain meds and he is good to go! We'll see how it feels tomorrow after the numbing wears off!

I think this is one for the baby book. Hayden gets his first tooth and Daddy looses four in the same day!

Hayden's shirt says "Backseat Driver", but before Jeff's appointment, he was practicing being THE driver!

Hey Daddy...

"Hey Daddy, what are you doing?"

DSC_0563

"Nothing much son. Just fixing some coffee. What are you doing?"

"Oh not much, just coming to tell you how much I love you!"

DSC_0564

"That's sweet baby boy. I love you too! Let's walk to Mommy and tell her how much we love her."

DSC_0565

"I love you boys!"

I am guessing there are many more "Hey Daddy's" to come!

Say a little prayer for Jeff today. He is having all four wisdom teeth taken out this afternoon. To say he is nervous is an understatement. He doesn't do well with things (pain) like this. :-)

Mom Update 2-3-10

DSCN1505

What do you do for fun when you are visiting Nanny and Granddaddy? Play with Granddaddy's hat!

We went to see Mom on Sunday and again today. Other than some nausea, she seemed to be doing better today. She has been eating better the last couple of days. She has been taking a daily walk around the facility. They have also been doing some exercises with her in the room as well.

She is still sleeping a lot (during the day), but is more alert as well if that makes sense. :-) I think Mom and Dad are getting up about every 1 1/2 hours during the night for her to go to the bathroom. They are still giving her the Lasix diuretic. So, I am not sure how much they are sleeping at night! Mom has continued to loose weight. She has lost about 50 pounds since January 1st.

It has been 3 weeks since surgery and almost 2 weeks in the Rehab Hospital. I took some pictures of her grandbabies and Harley (their Yorkie) to her room today. Maybe that will get her motivated to get going and get home soon!

Babyfood-Making Rookie

Well, its official that I am a babyfood making rookie, but I can now say I have done it! I have wanted to do it for a long time and I guess I will admit, I have just been lazy! Sad, I know! As I said earlier, I can't stand the thought of those baby food meats that you can buy. So, I decided to make some of my own.

I started out with chicken and sweet potato. I used one raw chicken breast (Jen~you can do this...Jeff will cut it up for you!) and one sweet potato. I started small because I wanted to make sure Hayden would eat it before I made a ton of it. I cubed both the potato and chicken breast and boiled them together for about 20-30 minutes until both were done. I then spooned the potato and chicken out and put it in the blender.

DSC_0567

I set the the water I boiled it in to the side so I could use it as a I needed when I was mixing it up.

DSC_0568

I would recommend using a larger stock pot to do this. Mine boiled over both times! You would think I would learn the first time! Not good for a Momma that has a baby that likes to crawl around in the kitchen now!

Then you get that blender going!

DSC_0569

I ended up putting mine in my little food processor because my chicken was still a little chunkier than I wanted.

DSC_0570

Then, you put it in your ice cube trays to freeze. (It seemed easiest for me to use a baby feeding spoon to get it into the tray without making a mess.) The one sweet potato and one chicken breast made one tray full. (I figure enough for 7 meals).

I then put some cling wrap over it.

DSC_0574

After it froze, I put them in freezer baggies for easy access! I didn't put too many in a bag so I wasn't openening the same bag over and over leading to freezer burn!

Hayden trying the sweet potatoes and chicken...He wanted more!

I made apples and chicken as well. I actually added some carrots in with it because carrots are not Hayden's favorite thing. I didn't have to use the food processer with it. The blender worked great. The only bad thing was it took the carrots a little longer to cook than everything else. But, it turned out fine and Hayden seemed to like it! I actually used 1 1/2 apples, about 8 small carrots, and one chicken breast. This made 1 1/2 ice cube trays.

You may have noticed the freezer bag above says peas and carrots. With this, I had opened a can of peas and carrots for Hayden to try. He loved them and did well with self feeding. But, of course you have a ton left over. I decided to go ahead and blend these to freeze as well. So, I got 8 meals for 88 cents!

All in all, it was a pleasant experience and I regret not doing this sooner!

Teeth soon?

When we went for our 9 month well check, the doctor didn't feel like Hayden would get any teeth soon. She said that they recommend a visit to a pediatric dentist if babies had not gotten any teeth at 12 months. Doesn't sound like fun!

I have continued to feel around on Hayden's bottom gum line and haven't felt anything. But, I felt up top and found this...

DSC_0578

What do you think? Do you think he will have top teeth soon? Before bottom teeth? Isn't that abnormal? Then again, I am not sure that we do anything that is "normal". Ha! :-) Hayden has been grabbing at both ears this past weekend. I really don't think he has an ear infection. He has also started sucking on his top lip. And...a little whiny and frequent wakings (four within two hours last night)! I am just attributing it to teething. :-)

I guess time will tell if that toothless grin will soon be gone. Truly bittersweet!

Special Delivery!

I love getting things in the mail! On Thursday, I got this big box!

DSC_0548

Jeff and I were talking one night about how I would like to walk more outside, but with our long rock driveway and paved, but not perfect roads, our Chicco stroller is going to get ruined if I continued to use it on walks around here. I don't think it was made for country living! So, I suggested we get a jogging stroller. Just to set the record straight, I don't jog, but I do like to walk! So, I started doing some research and this is the one I ended up getting.

DSC_0550

It is a Joovy Zoom 360. All of the reviews were great on it and it was on clearance at Babies R Us online along with an extra 15% off and free shipping! When looking, I wanted a 3 wheeled stroller with the swivel front wheel. I also wanted bicycle like tires. I wanted a large canopy for warm sunny days. Basically, I wanted a high quality stroller without having to spending a lot of money to get it! ;-) It also came with a rain cover (if some of you are that dedicated) and a tire pump. Everything that the reviews said about it, I loved!

DSC_0558

We put it together on Friday, but because the weather was so yucky, we didn't get to officially try it out, but Hayden decided to go for a spin in his PJ's in the kitchen.

Hayden got a little sleepy!

It truly rides/drives "like a Cadillac"! I love it!
