The countdown has begun.

Hayden is very aware that he has a birthday coming up.  He even wakes up asking where his birthday cake is.   He still sings “Happy Birthday Hudson” every day.  Hudson’s birthday was a month ago!   We have had a lot of birthday’s lately.  So, I made him a little countdown calendar so he can see we still have a few weeks until we get to celebrate his special day!

We had a fun day.  Again, the weather has been great today!  Hayden helped me mow the yard and pull weeds.  We even found three earth worms that kept him entertained.  How bad is it that I let him eat his lunch before I realized that he hadn’t washed his hands since he played with them?  GAG!  I am just going to pretend that didn’t happen. 

We had a lot of fun playing “farm”  today too.  Have you ever seen so many trucks, tractors, and farm equipment in all your life?  Ha!  Before having Hayden, I am quite sure I would have cringed at the thought of my living room looking like this!  Oh how things change!

A Haircut and a Look Back…

We had another fun day today.  Spent a lot of time outside soaking up some Vitamin D.  Brooklyn spent the day with us so that made it extra special for us too.  Hayden loves having a playmate!  She even helped me cook and clean.  What more can you ask for?  We ran a few errands, ate pizza, and my friend Amy cut Hayden’s hair.  He was long overdue for a haircut.  His hair has changed from that baby soft/fine hair to a little more coarse, so that makes it a lot harder to tame!  Hayden doesn’t really care for having his hair cut.  I think it is the whole getting in the chair/putting on a cape/sitting still that isn’t that appealing to him.  Once she started, he did pretty good.  Thank goodness for suckers and Sprite to help us out!  But, he looks so stinkin’ cute with his hair cut.  And Jen, it just makes him look bigger!   I can’t believe we are going to have a 3 year old soon. 

When I was looking at the pictures of Hayden I took at his after haircut/before bed photo shoot, I couldn’t help but look back at this picture of Jeff at 3 years old.   Cutest little boys I have ever seen!  ;-)

Poor baby, the only thing he has of mine are my exact bowed legs!  Ha! 

Hook me out of here!

After getting lots of rain this weekend, we welcomed the sunshine and being able to spend time outside today.  Hayden jumped right on his tractor.  I knew in the back of my mind as I was walking the opposite direction of him , I should say, “don’t go into the garden”.  Well, my intuition was correct.  That is exactly what happened. 

Hayden said, “Hook me out of here!”  It was so funny!  After I got a few pictures of course, I shed the shoes and jumped right in.  Mud up to my shins, we finally got the tractor out. 

After we hosed off, he was back in business.  Only for a short time though.  I think he ran the battery down spinning out in the mud. 

So, what better to do than to go find another puddle to play in.

A teachable moment

Hayden is all about his daddy.  Whatever that might include, he is all about it! 

Including taking the opportunity to wear his rubber boots.

Or his sweat shirt because he got his clothes wet/dirty.  This cracks me up!

  

Or, learning all about a crawfish. 

This morning, Jeff took advantage of a teachable moment.  He found this crawfish on his “nature/hunting for pigs” walk and brought it home for Hayden. 

Hayden was still talking about that crawfish when it was time for bed tonight. 

On a random note, have you ever made dirt?  You know the dessert kind?  I made it today for our bi-monthly Thirty-One Celebrate and Connect meeting.  It was so yummy!  Here is the recipe if you ever need to make dirt.  ;-)  I added a chocolate pudding mix in with it too.

Just a typical day…

Just thought I would give you a glimpse of a typical day with Hayden these days.  This boy makes me laugh so hard!  He is such a mess!

After you read all this, you will probably agree that I should title this post, “You might be a redneck…”

Jeff decided to take the “governor” off of Hayden’s tractor.  It goes so fast now.  It’s a little scary.  Well, when the battery is fully charged, it has so much power that the front wheels come up off the ground a bit.  Seriously, crazy I know.  Well, needless to say Hayden loves it. 

We have this little hill in the back.  Today, he would get on it and “rev his engine” and take off!  He thought it was the most hilarious thing ever that the wheels would come off the ground! 

Hayden has become quite the tricycle driver.  Frontwards, backwards, he is quite the trickster!

Today, he became a little more creative.  I always like to use my tricycle to haul my wheelbarrow.  What about you?

Or, how about a lawn mower tied on with string? 

Make sure your sound is up for this one.  Nothing like using Jeff’s shooting stick for a pretend gun and practicing shooting deer in your underwear in the back yard.  He cracks me up!  

He spends way too much time with me.  Deer, there, and bam all are two syllable words.   Ha! 

Our new car. WHEW!

Today we finally made the leap with our new car purchase!  Researching and find the right one for us has been a feat.  Jeff and I (mostly me) both had things we wanted/didn’t want so it took us quite some time to find the right one.  Last night, I had made up my mind to buy a new Ford Explorer.  We both fell in love with them and actually still love them.  But, I started thinking about how selfish I was being and that it really wasn’t the best thing for our family.  Dave Ramsey was talking to us.  Ha!  So, this morning we got up early and met Jeff in Greenville to drive a couple of used Durango’s.  Jeff liked them a lot.  I liked them ok.  We also drove an Armada and fell in love with it!  But, the 13.8 MPG gas mileage on the odometer was screaming at us!  So, I called the Ford dealership in Sulphur Springs and they had two explorers that I wanted to look at.  So, we made the trek there.  Well, the two I wanted to see were gone.  GRRR.  But, they had a few SUV’s on their lot that we liked.  So, we told the salesman to grab the keys to the Mazda CX-9.  Well, it was pretty much love at first site.  Totally loaded.  Everything we wanted.  Well within our price range.  Drove like a car not an army tank.  Bingo!  We made our deal, ran home to drop off Hayden with Nana (he was done with car shopping-bless his heart!) drop off one of our vehicles, grab checkbooks, and headed back.  Then, the car was ours. 

Poor Jeff worked all night last night with only 4 hours of sleep yesterday then dealt with this all day and just went to bed . I have no idea how he was functioning. But, he was awesome!

We are both in love with it.  I am not sure if I am more excited about actually getting the car or the sleepless nights, hours of internet research, dealing with salesmen (no offense!) and long talks are OVER!

Our Saturday, Car shopping and a Birthday Party

Yesterday morning we loaded up and went car shopping.  This is the second day we have spent doing this.  It isn’t very much fun.  Or, maybe it is.  I don’t like going and doing all the work and leaving without a car!  Ha!  We are just trying to find the best vehicle and price for our family (and budget).  So, the car shopping continues. 

We came home and got ready to head to Hudson’s 3rd birthday party.  Hayden had such a fun time.  For the first time, Hayden got in a bounce house and loved it! 

Hayson, Hudson’s one year old brother, go in the bounce house and Hayden immediately laid down beside him and started talking to him and playing with him.  I thought it was so sweet!
